The association of the dragon and Chinese culture extends back as far as archeological evidence itself. In addition to this more than three thousand year heritage, the dragon has symbolized imperial power since the Han Dynasty. The renowned oracle bones of China, which record the earliest form of Chinese writing, were commonly referred to as "dragon bones".
Unlike its European counterpart, the Chinese dragon is almost always viewed as auspicious and has a close connection with the beneficence of water. Myths concerning the rain dragon are recorded as early as the Warring States period (422-256 B.C.) The spirit of the dragon permeates all of Chinese folk culture. Most westeners are familiar with dragon boat races and the dragon dance. Both of these activities are celebrated annually throughout China and are representative of the common peoples' hope for good rains and a bountiful harvest. It is the dragon that brings life giving rain.
Being the oldest and most revered symbol of China we at Rain Dragon Antiquities feel an affinity with the dragon. We endeavor to bring to our customers a wide variety of authentic antiquities which touch the splendor of our world's oldest existing culture.
