Six-cornered lacquered box with an original gold painting of pomegranates and flowers. The Chinese word for pomegrantes is a  homophone for another word which means "remains". Thus the pomegranate symbolizes having a surplus. As the pomegranate contains so many seeds, it also represents many sons.
